League leaders Gor Mahia salvaged a dramatic late point against Posta Rangers after a 1–1 draw in an intense FKF Premier League clash at Nyayo National Stadium on Thursday, keeping their grip on the top of the table despite a spirited challenge from the hosts.

Posta Rangers made a dream start, taking the lead in the seventh minute when Jackson Macharia rose highest to head home a precise cross from Samuel Wasambo, giving the hosts an early advantage and immediately putting pressure on the league leaders.

Gor Mahia struggled to find their usual fluency in the first half, appearing sluggish in their approach and allowing Posta Rangers to defend with discipline and confidence.

The second half saw a marked improvement from Gor Mahia as they adjusted their style of play and pushed forward with greater intensity in search of an equaliser.

Despite the mounting pressure, Posta Rangers held firm until the final minute, when Ebenezer Assifuah capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Brian Odhiambo, calmly slotting home the equaliser in the 90th minute to rescue a crucial point for the visitors.

Gor Mahia’s head coach admitted the team had made a slow start but was relieved to avoid defeat.

“We didn’t start well; we were a little bit sluggish in the way we approached the game. In the second half, we changed the style of play and we got better. Thankfully we got an equaliser — it would have been bad if we had lost the game,” he said.
The late leveller keeps Gor Mahia firmly in the driving seat at the summit, though the dropped points offer a glimmer of hope to their closest challengers.

AFC Leopards, who recently suffered a derby defeat to KCB FC, remain among the closest pursuers, while Shabana FC and Kakamega Homeboyz continue to apply pressure just behind them.

For Posta Rangers, the result represents a valuable point against one of the title favourites, underlining their ability to compete with — and frustrate — the league’s strongest sides.
