Gor Mahia delivered a statement performance on Sunday, cruising to a commanding 3-0 victory over Mara Sugar in a FKF Premier League encounter that underlined their title credentials and saw them paint the top of the table green.

The record champions took control from the opening exchanges and drew first blood in the 14th minute through Felix Oluoch, who finished calmly to register his seventh goal of the season.

Gor’s dominance was evident again in the 28th minute when Musa Shariff doubled the lead, leaving Mara Sugar pinned back for long spells as K’Ogalo dictated the tempo.

After the break, Gor Mahia remained composed and eventually sealed the result late on. Kapen completed the rout in the 84th minute, tapping in from close range after a well-weighted cross from Ghanaian forward Ebenezer Assifuah to cap a well-worked team move.

Speaking after the match, Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor said the outcome unfolded exactly as anticipated, citing discipline as the foundation of his side’s performance.

“We knew we were going to control the game, and the result we got is exactly what we expected,” said Akonnor.
“Discipline is very important. The players understand that they must remain disciplined if they want to earn playing time.”

Mara Sugar head coach Edward Manoah was frank in defeat, acknowledging the quality gap between the two sides.

“Gor Mahia deserved today’s win because they were better than us,” Manoah said.
“There is a big difference between Gor Mahia and Mara Sugar. Their coach has the advantage of working with national team players, while for us, we have to go to the grassroots to identify and nurture raw talent.”

Elsewhere in Murang’a, the hosts edged Bidco United 2-1 in a tightly contested encounter. Paul Osama opened the scoring in the fifth minute before Bidco United levelled through Collins Akite in the 55th. Jackson Imbiakha struck late in the 87th minute to secure all three points.

In Kakamega, Kakamega Homeboyz continued their impressive home form with a 2-0 win over Kariobangi Sharks, with goals from Moses Mudavadi and Hillary Otieno.

Sunday’s results added fresh intrigue to both the title race and the survival battle as the FKF Premier League season gathers pace.
