Gachagua’s DCP Party launches new youth agenda for 2027 polls

Speaking at the DCP headquarters in Nairobi, Party Youth Leader Wanjiku Thiga said the youth wing was ready to transform political engagement and expand the party’s reach across the country.  

“We are the generation that refuses to be silenced — the ones who know that our revolution will not be televised; it will be organized,” said Thiga, addressing delegates, party officials, and youth leaders during the DCP Youth League Forum.  

The event was attended by Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua, who also serves as Kenya’s former Deputy President, and Secretary General Cleophas Malala.  

Thiga announced the rollout of a Youth Training Manual, describing it as the “political Bible” for young aspirants. The manual, she said, would be used to train and empower emerging leaders to champion DCP’s vision and values.  

“From this, we shall build capacity, sharpen minds, and create a new breed of leaders — unbought, unbowed, and unstoppable,” she said.  

The Youth League also unveiled ambitious targets to increase youth representation in elected offices. Currently, only 52 out of 330 Members of Parliament are youth, a statistic Thiga said the party intends to change.  

“DCP says no more! We are coming for those seats — in Parliament, in County Assemblies, and in every space where decisions are made about our lives,” she declared.  

Thiga further proposed that nomination fees for youth aspirants be waived, urging the party to instead require youth candidates to recruit new members as part of their nomination process.  

“Leadership should never be for sale. MCA aspirants will register 1,000 new members; MPs, 2,500; and Governors, Senators, and Women Representatives, 5,000. That’s how we build a party from the ground up — through numbers, loyalty, and action,” she added.  

She also affirmed the Youth League’s commitment to gender inclusion, noting that out of 1,450 elected MCAs in Kenya, only 12 are young women.  

“Achieving the two-thirds gender rule is not a constitutional burden, but a moral duty. We will ensure young women stand shoulder to shoulder with young men in leadership,” said Thiga.  

The DCP Youth League outlined its strategic plan for 2027, which includes:  

• Training and supporting over 300 young aspirants;  
• Establishing youth offices in all 47 counties;  
• Mobilising at least 3 million youth votes;  
• Integrating three youth policies into the national agenda; and  
• Launching University and TVET Chapters nationwide.  

Thiga concluded her speech with a rallying call for youth mobilisation, citing examples of grassroots leaders already driving voter registration and civic engagement.  

“This is what true patriotism looks like — youth stepping out of comfort zones, using creativity and courage to awaken the conscience of a nation,” she said.  

“We are not the leaders of tomorrow; we are the leaders of today. Our time is now. Our voices are loud. Our movement is unstoppable.”  

The DCP Youth League Forum marks the beginning of a series of nationwide youth activities leading to the party’s National Youth Summit, which will serve as a pre-launch event ahead of DCP’s official national rollout.
