Leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have endorsed the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader as their preferred choice to carry the opposition presidential ticket in the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua and his allies, who addressed two rallies in Central Kenya, criticised the government over what they described as unpopular and regressive policies, vowing to reverse them should they ascend to power.

Gachagua’s Kenya Kwanza decampaigns kicked off in Kirinyaga County, a region he previously toured as the administration’s second-in-command.

During the rallies, he accused the government of maladministration and pledged to correct what he termed as mistakes made before the last elections.

“Kwa sababu mimi ndio niliwaweka kwa shimo ya kumleta Kasongo hapa, mimi ndio nitaongoza safari ya kupeleka yeye nyumbani mpaka Sugoi,” said Gachagua.

DCP deputy party leader Cleophas Malala also took aim at the government, raising concerns over state priorities and accountability.

“So, we want to ask William Ruto, before you start dishing state appointments to Raila’s family, you must compensate families of Gen Zs who were killed,” said Malala.

In Karatina, Nyeri County, the DCP entourage sought to counter President William Ruto’s recent political engagements in the region, with Gachagua, speaking on his home turf, openly criticising his former boss and questioning his leadership record.
