Four suspects arrested over the gang rape of a woman and the armed robbery of her boyfriend in Kangemi, Nairobi, have been detained for 14 days to allow detectives to complete investigations.

The suspects identified as Bradley Chahasi alias Bura, Kelvin Madaraka Afundi alias Mada Soka, Joash Etabale Omollo alias Vinny and Hannington Anangwe Musiria alias Toh were arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the incident occurred on the night of November 1, 2026, when the couple was walking to buy foodstuffs before they were accosted by a gang of about five men, one of whom was armed with a knife.

The gang forced the couple into Kiuru Forest, where the man was assaulted and robbed of his mobile phone before managing to escape.

His companion was held against her will and sexually assaulted by the gang before being released in the early hours of the following morning.

"The boyfriend was seriously injured and was robbed of his mobile phone before he managed to escape from the gang's clutches. Unfortunately, his female companion was not so fortunate; she was captured, subjected to a horrific gang rape, and held against her will before being released in the early hours of the morning," DCI stated.

The woman later sought medical attention at Muthua Dispensary.

Following investigations, a contingent of officers the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), Dagoretti, and the Operations Action Team (OAT) at the DCI subsequently arrested three suspects in Kangemi, while a fourth was traced and apprehended in Banana, Kiambu County.

During the operations, detectives recovered a SIM card and mobile phone allegedly used to receive money from the victim.

Appearing before court on Friday, investigators obtained 14-day custodial orders to facilitate further investigations.

DCI says detectives are pursuing additional leads to establish whether the suspects were linked to other incidents and identify possible accomplices.
