Four people were killed and three others injured in a banditry attack at Manyatta Ginda village in Saku Constituency, Marsabit County, in an incident that has sparked outrage over insecurity in the region.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Marsabit County acting police commander George Kipkoros said the attack happened on Sunday at about 2am, and that two of those killed were suspected bandits whose identities had not been established.

The other fatalities were identified as a 36-year-old National Police Reservist, Guyo Isack, and a 60-year-old elder, Gutu Kutulo.

Police said three people sustained gunshot wounds and were admitted to Marsabit County Referral Hospital. They were identified as Halkano Godana (36), Kane Galgallo (55) and Abdi Guyo (55).

Kipkoros said preliminary investigations indicate the attackers may have come from neighbouring Samburu County. He added that the two slain suspects were wearing Songa Conservancy and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) uniforms.

Police moved the bodies of the two suspects from the scene as residents demanded a thorough probe into the attack.

The Marsabit County University and College Students Association (MCUCSA) condemned the incident and called for investigations, saying such attacks undermine development, education and unity. The association urged residents and stakeholders to remain united and work with security agencies to restore peace.
