Former Football Kenya Federation presidential candidate Tom
Alila has called on the current leadership to quell the ongoing wrangles in the
federation that have seen CEO Harold Ndege go to court to stop the federation
from ousting him from the position.
Federation president Hussein Mohammed has in the recent past
accused the CEO of gross misconduct, a standoff Alila feels needs to
be solved internally to avoid long and drawn-out legal battles.
“These wrangles are not good for Kenyan football at all; they need to take them out of court and sort them out internally.
"Court cases always delay
a lot of this when it comes to football progress in any country and I feel
ahead of next year's AFCON they paint a bad picture to the world," said Alila
The former Nyanza NEC member went on to urge the federation to
focus on grassroots football development, saying it's where the bedrock of talent
is.
“We need to go down to the basics; grassroots football should
be the place to begin with school games. That is where the youth teams come
from and the backbone of any national team so I feel the
federation needs to do more,” added Alila
With Kenya set to host the 2027 African Cup of
Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania, the veteran football administrator hailed
the government for the efforts they are putting in to make sure Talanta Stadium
is ready for the competition.
“The government has been very keen on developing sporting infrastructures like Nyayo, Kasarani, and the great facility Talanta Stadium, which is coming up very well.
"With this kind of facility, I think sports activities in
the country will improve a lot,” stated the former FKF NEC member
