In a statement, FKF General Secretary Harold Ndege, the federation confirmed that all scheduled matches across various divisions — including the FKF Premier League, National Super League, Women’s Premier League, and grassroots competitions — will be put on hold until the conclusion of the mourning period.
“Following the Government’s declaration of seven days of National Mourning in honour of the late former Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended all league fixtures scheduled during this period,” read part of the statement.
The federation also expressed its deep condolences to the Odinga family and joined Kenyans in paying tribute to a man remembered not only for his political legacy but also for his enduring passion for football.
Raila, a lifelong supporter of local football and a regular presence at stadiums, was widely regarded as one of the sport’s most influential advocates.
Over the years, he openly supported Gor Mahia and other community-based clubs, emphasizing football’s power to unite the nation.
“FKF joins the nation in mourning a great leader and a passionate supporter of Kenyan football. May his soul rest in peace,” the statement added.
The move by FKF aligns with the presidential directive that all national institutions and organizations suspend events of a celebratory nature as the country reflects on Odinga’s life and contribution to Kenya’s democracy and social development.
Normal league activities are expected to resume after the official mourning period, with FKF promising to communicate revised fixtures in due course.
