Their bodies had remained at the City Mortuary for weeks as their families struggled to raise funds for burial. Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, through his Sonko Rescue Team, stepped in to cover funeral expenses, including transport, coffins, and burial costs.
Among those buried was Michael Okoth Okumu, a resident of Kibra, who was laid to rest on November 7, 2025, in Alego Usonga, Siaya County. Josephine Akengo Angayo, also from Kibra, was interred in Luanda, Vihiga County. Evans Onyango Kiche, a resident of Ruai, who died from a gunshot wound to the chest, was buried on November 10, 2025, in Homa Bay County. Vincent Otieno Ogutu, from Umoja along Kangundo Road, who sustained gunshot wounds to the head and eye, was laid to rest on November 9, 2025, in Rongo, Migori County. Josefae Jirda Burka, a resident of Kiamaiko who was shot in the head, was buried earlier on October 21, 2025, at the Kariokor Muslim Cemetery.
Sonko said his team liaised with the victims’ families to facilitate the burials and clear accumulated mortuary bills — KSh 35,000 at Chiromo and KSh 18,000 at City Mortuary.
“My team was committed to ensuring the victims were laid to rest respectfully. May their souls rest in peace,” Sonko said.
He added that his team continues to support vulnerable families across the city, handling about 20 humanitarian cases weekly.
