Family demands answers after Kenyan woman dies of 'heart attack' while working in Oman

The family of Everlyne Amagove, a 33-year-old woman, is now
crying out for justice and demanding that the government of Kenya tighten its
grip to uncover whether the agent who sent her to Oman for work knowingly
ignored her fragile health condition, only for her to later die while abroad.
Everlyne, well known for roasting and selling maize along
Gitanga Road in Lavington, reportedly succumbed to a heart attack, a cause of death
her family continues to question.
The family had hoped to conduct a postmortem to establish the
truth, but they have been unable to raise the Ksh.15,000 required for the
procedure.
Everlyne left Kenya for Oman in October last year, hoping to earn
a living and support her family both in Kawangware and her rural home in
Gimarani, Vihiga County.
Through an agent identified as Malister Agency Travel, she
secured employment in Oman. But just months later, on February 10, 2026, she
was pronounced dead while working under her employer, Said Ali Najim
Al-Ghilani.
"I wasn't aware when she arrived in Oman. Months later,
is when I received a report of her demise," stated Rosemary Atieno, her
mother.
Official documents claim her death was caused by a heart attack.
Yet her mother fears this may not be the full truth. The puzzle remains
unsolved, as the family lacks the funds to carry out an independent autopsy.
Everlyne’s body was repatriated on February 26, 2026, arriving
at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), where her grieving family
received her remains.
Her mother recounts that before traveling, Everlyne sold
nearly everything she owned to raise money for her journey to Oman.
"Nguo zake nilipewa na agent wake mahali alikuwa anaishi,
zingine zote aliuza sijui kama alitumia kwenda, I don't know," Atieno
noted.
Her spot along Gitanga Road - where she roasted maize for two
years before leaving for the Gulf in search of a better life, unaware that she
would return only in death - has since been taken over by a friend, continuing
the same trade.
"Tumejuana na yeye akichomea mahindi lakini hii ni space
yake wakati mwengine alikuwa ananyeshewa hapa akichoma mahindi," stated
Davis Onyancha, trader.
What emerges is a troubling question: how did she travel
abroad despite a medical condition that should have barred her from such
strenuous work?
"Huyu rafiki yetu alikuwa na shida za kiafya akiwa kazini
anaanguka tunampeleka hospitali anarudi, medical certificate alipata aje kutoka
hapa? Kumaanisha hizi kampuni hazitilii mkazo," stated Nyamwea Bosco, another
trader.
The unanswered questions surrounding Everlyne Amagove’s death,
her health condition, the role of the recruitment agency, and the lack of funds
for an autopsy leave her family demanding accountability and justice.
