The family of Rahab Njoki Njuguna says she disappeared after going to meet friends at the Waterfront Mall in Karen. CCTV footage in our possession captures her final moments, showing her interacting with strangers before she disappeared.
This CCTV footage, recorded on September 7 at the Waterfront Mall in Karen, Nairobi, tells the story of a young girl’s final known moments.
Thirteen-year-old Rahab Njoki Njuguna, a pupil at Kirigu Primary School in Mutuini, Dagoretti, is seen walking calmly into the mall alongside another girl and a young man.
Inside, cameras capture Rahab in brief conversation with the young man she arrived with. Moments later, more boys join the group, their faces unfamiliar.
Then, after a short while, Rahab is seen walking out of the mall beside the same young man. That was the last time anyone saw her.
“Hao vijana walichukua huyo mtoto wamrudishe tu, sababu huyo mtoto tafadhali wamrudishe sababu huyo mtoto anastahili kuwa shule… naumia sana kama mzazi, nimemtafuta lakini sijasaidika,” said Njeri Ndung’u, mother to Rahab.
A female friend who was with Rahab at the time she disappeared says the young man appeared agitated and even threatened her before walking away with Rahab, never to return.
“Ilikuwa Jumapili, aliniacha church, akaenda Waterfront na wenzake akita hook na wenzake alipotea,” added Njeri Ndung’u.
The family later reported Rahab’s disappearance at the Karen Police Station, but say the case has since stalled with no significant progress.
As the search continued, an unknown caller reached out, claiming to have rescued Rahab. The man, who identified himself as a senior police officer going by the alias OCPD Kilgoris, convinced the family to send him money, promising to reunite them with their daughter.
But it was all a lie. Investigations have since revealed that the same individual has been targeting families of missing persons across the country using the same elaborate scheme to extort money from them.
“Alitupigia simu akasema yeye ni OCPD Kilgoris, tutume pesa msichana aletwe Kabete Police Station lakini ilikuwa uwongo,” said Njeri Ndung’u.
For now, families with missing loved ones, including those previously featured, are anxiously waiting for authorities to act swiftly, dismantle the syndicate, and help bring home those whose whereabouts remain unknown.
