A former employee of the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC) was on Monday arraigned for allegedly using a forged Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to secure employment.
Gladys Babra Asembo appeared before the Milimani Anti-Corruption court, where she faced multiple charges, including fraudulent acquisition of Ksh.6,236,053 from NCWSC, deceiving a principal, forgery and uttering a false document.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) launched a probe against Asembo following
a report alleging that she used a forged certificate to secure employment as an ICT
Assistant between June 27, 2012 and March 4, 2024.
“The
investigations established that the certificate she presented was falsified but
purported to be a genuine document issued by the Kenya National Examinations
Council (KNEC),” the commission noted in a statement.
Upon completion of the
investigations, the Commission forwarded the file to the Director of Public
Prosecutions (DPP), who reviewed the evidence and approved the charges against
the suspect.
Asembo denied
all the charges and was released on a bond
of Ksh.1,000,000 with two
sureties of a similar amount.
She
was initially arrested on September 3, 2025, and
released on a cash bail of Ksh.25,000,
pending arraignment on September 5, 2025.
She
however she
failed to appear in court on the expected date,
prompting the court to issue a warrant of arrest on September 17, 2025, leading to her arraignment.
