Ex-Minister Nyachae's son charged with stealing Ksh. 1.2 Million from family company

Michael Moragia Nyachae is accused of stealing Sh1,226,036 on diverse dates between March 28, 2019, and September 28, 2021, in Kisii County.

According to the charge sheet, Nyachae allegedly committed the offence contrary to Section 268(1), as read with Section 275 of the Penal Code.

The prosecution alleges that the money, amounting to Sh1,226,036, was the property of Sansora Group Limited.

Nyachae appeared before Magistrate Caroline Nyaguthie and pleaded not guilty.

Through his lawyers, Nyachae asked the court to release the accused on bail.

"In granting bail, we are asking for the court to exercise discretion, and we can tell you without doubt that the person before you belongs to a distinguished family," his lawyer said.

The lawyers described the case as smoke without fire.

The lawyers told the court that the company named in the charge sheet is a family company.

The court directed the matter to be mentioned on September 29 for pre-trial directions, taking into consideration the peculiar circumstances of the case, and granted the accused a bond of Ksh. 200,000 or a cash bail of Ksh. 50,000.
