County Commissioner Jack Obuo, who chairs the committee, said the area has largely enjoyed peaceful campaigns since candidates were cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). However, he raised concerns over the circulation of recent social media clips showing individuals issuing threats of violence.
“Mbeere North has had peaceful campaigns since candidates were cleared by IEBC. However, in the last few days, we have seen some clips circulating online with people making threats. This cannot be tolerated,” said Obuor during a press briefing in Embu town.
The commissioner revealed that four individuals have already been summoned for questioning after recording themselves making inflammatory statements during the recent visit by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua to Mbeere North.
Obuor urged all candidates and their supporters to uphold peace, respect each other’s political space, and avoid acts of provocation or intolerance.
“Let candidates notify the police before holding meetings. They all signed a code of conduct committing to peaceful campaigns, and we expect full adherence,” he said.
He further assured residents that security agencies are on high alert to ensure a smooth and peaceful election process, warning that any attempts to cause chaos will be met with decisive legal action.
