Sixteen Kenyan elite masters’ athletes, accompanied by their coaches, are targeting strong performances in Tunisia where the 15th African Athletics Masters Championships will be taking place, from November 20–24, at the Radès Olympic Stadium, in Tunisia.

The contingent, fresh from a two-week intensive training camp in Nairobi is led by defending hammer throw champion and world silver medalist Rebeca Koroso who has expressed confidence in the team’s readiness.

“This time I am honoured to have a strong team. I believe in each one of us, including my deputy captain. We appreciate the support from Athletics Kenya, and we are happy,” said Koroso.

The squad also features Eric Sikuku, the defending champion in the 10km race walk.

Athletics Kenya Senior Vice President Paul Mutwii emphasized the importance of Masters Athletes serving as role models.

“We want to set a good example for the youngsters. Our elite Masters athletes want to show upcoming athletes that growing older is not the end of everything,” Mutwii noted.

Kenya Masters Athletics Secretary General Rose Tata Muya highlighted the team’s dual mission—competing and promoting Masters Athletics across the continent.

“We know it’s a big task ahead, but we will do our best. Beyond aiming for strong results, we are also promoting Masters Athletics in Africa. We are fortunate to have government support through Athletics Kenya, and we truly appreciate it,” she said.

Kenya Masters Athletics Chairman Stephen Ole Marai expressed optimism about the medal prospects.

“We expect to bring home more medals because most of our athletes will compete in at least two events. I believe each athlete can secure a medal," said Marai.

The championship is expected to draw top Masters Athletes from across Africa, with Team Kenya aiming for standout performance.
