Hossameldin Ragab and Mostafa Ragab inspired a stunning comeback as Egypt defeated Kenya 2-1 in a tense Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) encounter late Saturday in Ismailia, Egypt.

Kenya’s forward Bethuel Masambu netted the opener, giving the Chui a deserved lead nine minutes into the third quarter after sustained pressure on the hosts.

However, Egypt responded swiftly. Three minutes later, Hossameldin Ragab converted a penalty corner to level the score before Mostafa Ragab sealed the victory with a well-taken field goal five minutes into the final quarter.

Both teams had played a cautious, defensive game in the first two quarters, resulting in a goalless draw at halftime.

The match turned physical in the later stages, with Sutcliffe Usagi (Sikh Union), Ashraf Said, and Mostafa Ragab all receiving suspensions for unsporting conduct.

Earlier in the day, defending champions South Africa thrashed Zambia 5-0, while Nigeria edged Ghana 2-1 to collect maximum points.

Kenya will next face defending champions South Africa, while Egypt will host Nigeria tomorrow.
