Rescue teams searching through the rubble of the collapsed building in Eastleigh, Nairobi, have discovered three more bodies, nearly two weeks since the incident.

Two of the bodies were spotted on Wednesday night, while a third was discovered at approximately 6:30 am on Thursday, November 5, as rescue teams continued efforts to retrieve them.

The latest discovery comes as the search and rescue operation enters its 14th day, with families of missing persons still camping at the scene, anxiously awaiting news of their loved ones.

Two female bodies had previously been recovered from the rubble on Sunday and Tuesday, with their identification scheduled for Thursday at the Nairobi City Mortuary.

Families who suspect the deceased could be their missing relatives have been asked to present themselves at the mortuary for post-mortem examinations and DNA profiling to facilitate formal identification.

Rescue teams had earlier indicated that at least 10 people were believed to be trapped in the building's basement, with operations entering a critical stage as emergency personnel worked to access the lower sections of the collapsed structure.

Four people have so far been rescued alive from the debris.

The multi-storey building collapsed on October 23, 2026, at approximately 1:00 pm.

Nairobi Regional Commander Issa Mohamud previously confirmed that the building was partially occupied at the time of the collapse, with tenants residing on the basement and ground floors.

The incident has renewed concerns over building safety and enforcement of construction regulations in Nairobi.

Following the collapse, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja called for amendments to the law to empower county governments to take legal action against developers who violate building regulations.

“We have formally written to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, and we hope our request will be considered. Counties must be empowered to take firm action against rogue developers who disregard building regulations and put lives at risk,” Sakaja said.

Rescue operations remain ongoing as emergency teams work to retrieve the newly discovered bodies and establish whether more victims remain trapped beneath the debris.
