EACC's Head of Corporate Affairs and Communication, Stephen Karuga, said the public auction, held on Thursday, October 9, followed court orders issued in Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Suit No. 20 of 2018 and Suit No. 10 of 2021.
The properties sold included a three-bedroom Riara apartment (Ksh.14 million), three residential units within Greenspan Estate valued between Ksh.6.7 million and Ksh.11 million each, and a Loresho Ridge townhouse that fetched Ksh.31 million.
According to the Commission, all the assets were sold above their reserve prices. The auctioned properties also formed part of ten assets earmarked for disposal, with the remaining lots located in Kisumu and Migori counties scheduled for sale on October 16, 2025.
EACC stated that proceeds from the sale would be deposited into the Consolidated Fund in accordance with Section 56C of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
“The Commission reiterates its commitment to tracing and recovering proceeds of corruption and unexplained wealth to ensure that perpetrators of corruption and economic crimes do not benefit from their ill-gotten wealth,” Karuga stated.
The Commission had initially sought to recover more than Ksh.1.9 billion allegedly misappropriated by Obado and more than 20 others from the Migori County government through fictitious procurement contracts.
Obado and the EACC, however, reached a settlement to surrender properties worth Ksh.428 million.
