The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on Wednesday grilled Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo over allegations of corruption and economic crimes amounting to Ksh.400 million.
According to the commission, the allegations are linked to
the construction of the county government offices.
Governor Nyaribo appeared before investigators at the EACC’s
Nairobi Integrity Centre for an interview and statement recording over alleged
irregular procurement and award of a Ksh.382 million contract to Spentech
Engineering Limited.
The commission says the firm was allegedly paid amounts
exceeding the value of work completed.
The anti-graft agency is also probing claims that the
governor irregularly authorised payments to himself totalling Ksh.18 million,
allegedly concealed as ex gratia payments and house allowance reimbursements.
EACC had summoned the county boss through a letter addressed to the governor’s lawyers
early this month on December 8.
“The Commission is amenable to your request to reschedule the Governor’s interview and statement recording. Subsequently, the interview has
been rescheduled to 17th December 2025 at 10:00 am, to be held at our Nairobi
Integrity Centre offices,” stated the letter.
The grilling follows search operations carried out on October 28, 2025, in Nyamira, Kisii and Nairobi counties, targeting residences and offices of several county officials identified as persons of interest in the ongoing investigations.
The search operations sought to recover documents and digital
evidence in line with the ongoing investigations.
EACC listed other persons of interest in the probe,
including Lameck Machuki Nyariki, Director of Housing and Physical Planning,
Peris Mose, Director of Roads (formerly Head of Procurement), Asberth Maobe,
Chief Officer, Finance and Accounting Services and Josphat Oruru, Chief
Officer, Roads, Transport & Public Works.
EACC at the time said the investigations would form part of wider efforts to establish the extent of alleged corruption and economic crimes within the Nyamira County government.
