EACC arrests two court officials for alleged bribery

The suspects, identified as Linet Okungu and Benard Ngeno, were arrested in Eldoret and Nakuru. They are accused of demanding the bribes in return for court services.

Okungu was arrested for allegedly receiving a bribe of Ksh.20,000 following a complaint by a court user, who alleged that a Magistrate had demanded Ksh.50,000 to secure a stay order stopping the auction of a parcel of land in a matter pending before the court. 

Ngeno, on the other hand, was arrested for allegedly soliciting and receiving a bribe to allocate a convenient mention date for a complainant’s case. 

Okungu was processed at Eldoret Police Station and later released on a cash bail of Ksh.20,000, while Ngeno was escorted to the EACC South Rift Regional Office in Nakuru for processing and was later released on a cash bail of Ksh 5,000. 

Okungu is a Court Assistant attached to a Magistrate’s Court, and Ngeno is a court process server attached to the Nakuru Law Courts Civil Registry.

Both cases are pending completion of investigations.
