Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Youth Affairs,
Creative Economy, and Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, has officially handed over
Ithookwe Stadium in Kitui County to the head of the national celebrations steering
committee ahead of Mashujaa Day celebrations.
This follows the completion of the works on the stadium's
fundamental sections, which have been under construction for the last three
months.
Receiving the symbolic dummy key for the stadium, Mr. Kodeck
Makori, the alternative board representative for the principal secretary, state
department for interior and national administration, announced that they will
promptly commence preparations and hand over the facility to the county
government after the Mashujaa celebrations.
Speaking to the media after inspecting the stadium, CS
Mvurya expressed satisfaction with the contractor's work to ensure the facility
meets the required standards.
He recommended good progress in constructing the 885-meter
perimeter wall, which is in its final stages.
After the Mashujaa celebrations on October 20, 2025, Mvurya
confirmed that his ministerial team would return to the stadium to complete
other key installations and ensure it meets international sporting
standards.
Other facilities to be completed this week to ensure the
celebrations' success include the construction of the Ithookwe airstrip and
Kitui state lounge, tarmac roads around Kitui town, and Ithookwe stadium. These
projects are expected to cost more than Ksh 2 B.
