Former Harambee Stars head coach Twahir Muhiddin says there is
nothing to fear following their shocking 8-0 thumping by African heavyweights
Senegal at Mardan Stadium in Aksu, Turkey, on Tuesday.
“When you play a high-profile match like that- against Senegal- then you must be proud of that, but also gauge your performance despite the heavy defeat.
I don’t think there is something to worry about, but to work on the mistakes that you make to improve the team for a better show in the future,” said Muhiddin.
The seasoned tactician has, however, faulted head coach Benni McCarthy for allowing his team to play an open game against the Lions of Teranga instead of applying conservative tactics.
“We were not ready, and that is an open secret because of what
happened yesterday. When you play such an opponent you don’t open the game but
the most critical tactic to apply is counter attack by defending deeply and
hitting them by surprise when they don’t expect.
“This is Senegal, and they are the best team in Africa and among
the best in the world. Just the other day, they played against Brazil, who are one of the world’s best. You must give them respect and also be able to be
cautious when facing them, or else they will destroy you,” said Muhiddin.
Senegal were happy to use the friendly match to prepare for the
upcoming Afcon tournament to be played in Morocco later this year.
