The late Wells
Fargo HR Director Willis Ayieko’s killers withdrew Ksh.145,000 from his
account, an M-Pesa shop attendant has told the court on Tuesday.
He testified that
a middle-aged man used the deceased’s national ID card to make withdrawals of
Ksh.45,000, Ksh.30,000, and Ksh.70,000 in separate instalments.
CCTV footage
played in court showed the suspect receiving the cash before leaving the shop.
The prosecution presented the footage as part of efforts to link the
transactions to the suspects on trial.
M-Pesa attendant
Anthony Gitonga narrated that a man wearing a blue jacket and spectacles
arrived at 6:05a.m on October 19, 2024 and made two withdrawals using an ID
card bearing Ayieko’s name.
“Alikuja 6am na
alikuwa na ID ya Willis. Akatoa pesa Ksh.45,000, then akarudi akatoa Ksh.30,000,
na alikuwa na miwani,” Gitonga told the court.
He added that the
same man returned the following day and made another withdrawal, although he
was served by Gitonga’s colleague.
“Alirudi next day
akatoa pesa zingine ndiyo total ikafika Ksh.145,000, lakini siku ya pili mimi
sikuwa,” Gitonga said.
Gitonga told the
court that although he suspects the customer might be among the three suspects,
he could not positively identify him, saying the man he served wore spectacles.
“Huyo customer
alikuwa na miwani, na wale washukiwa watatu hawana miwani, so ni vigumu mimi
kuwatambua,” he said.
The next hearing
is scheduled for February 23, 2026. Ayieko went missing on October 18, 2024,
and his vehicle was found abandoned in Sabatia. His body was discovered six
days later in a stream along the Siaya-Kakamega border.
