Environment and Land Court in Ol Kalou has issued conservatory orders stopping logging at Aberdare Forest until the court gives further directions.

Justice Joseph Mugo Kamau is expected to visit Geta Forest alongside all parties on Friday, October 23, 2026.

The orders affect both the licensed and the unlicensed dealers.

The case was filed by Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia and Elijah Gachuki, a voter from Kipipiri.

Kalonzo Musyoka as an onterested party  was represented by Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru while Wanjiku Muhia was represent by Kiragu Wathuta.

Given time to address the court, Wanjiku narrated how the Aberdare water tower had been destroyed through logging, especially at Geta Forest Block in Kipipiri.

The two counsels expressed optimism that the court will serve the best interests of the general public.

Nyandarua county police commander and the County Conservator of Forests have been mandated to enforce the court order.

There was uproar in Nyandarua County last week over the logging activities inside the Aberdare Forest. Residents and local leaders say tens of lorries have been making their way into the forest and carting away logs, raising fears of environmental degradation and the possible loss of a critical water catchment area.

However, forest authorities and sawmillers have defended the harvesting, maintaining that the felling of mature and over-mature plantation trees is lawful and forms part of standard plantation management.
