Two suspects caught on CCTV camera stealing from a locked motor vehicle in a hotel in Ngurubani, Mwea, Kirinyaga County will have to wait for seven days to know their bond fate.

The two, Vincent Juma Raguma and Rosalid Wangari Mwihaki, appeared on Friday before Wang'uru Principal Magistrate Cyrus Kandie where they pleaded not guilty to stealing from a locked motor vehicle contrary to Section 279 (g) of the Penal Code.

The court heard that on 12th September, 2026 at Nice Digital City Hotel, Ngurubani Township in Mwea East, the two were captured on CCTV breaking into a locked Land Cruiser Prado Reg No. KBX 343 U belonging to Nicholus Kunga Ngece using a specially modified screwdriver and stole Ksh.70,000 cash, a Lenovo ThinkBook 14 laptop worth Ksh.138,500, a hearing aid worth Ksh.5,200, a car power inverter worth Ksh.7,000, a power bank worth Ksh.3,500, a men's jacket worth Ksh.3,500 and a travel bag worth Ksh.2,500, all valued at Ksh 230,200.

The two were arrested on October 9, 2026.

The prosecution objected to their release on bond, arguing that the accused are flight risks since the offence attracts 14 years' imprisonment and they failed to surrender despite media circulation. The prosecution also submitted that the accused are likely to commit similar offences, likely to interfere with witnesses, and that their release would be against public interest and public safety.

Magistrate Kandie granted detectives seven days to continue with investigations until 27th October, 2026.

Raguma will be held at Gathigirini GK Prison while Wangari will be held at Embu Prison until 27th October, when their fate on bond will be decided.
