A Dutch national who was captured in a video verbally attacking, humiliating and spitting at a police officer at the Diani Police Station in Kwale County will remain in police custody for the next 14 days.

The foreigner identified as Elwin Ter Horst was presented before Kwale Senior Resident Magistrate Joy Mutimba on Thursday, where Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (SADPP) Rosemary Nandi asked the court for more time to complete the investigations into the matter.

The court granted the application, allowing police to detain the accused at Port Police Station for 14 days pending the conclusion of investigations.

He is also accused of assaulting his Kenyan girlfriend, Angela Atieno, in a separate incident.

"Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions (SADPP) Rosemary Nandi explained to court that detectives were probing multiple offences, including assault, malicious damage to property, resisting arrest, and suspected drug-related activities," said the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in a statement.

The case will be mentioned on November 13, 2025, to confirm the progress of investigations.
