Speaking from Belem, Brazil, where he is attending the COP30 conference, Christian Yoko said the swap would be part of the country's plan to make its debt more sustainable.
He said the government was in talks with "partners" who would be able to provide credit "enhancements", but that the potential size of any swap was not yet clear.
He said a debt-for-nature swap "resonates clearly" due to the Congo Basin, which spans six countries and holds the world's second-largest tropical rainforest.
