Residents of Nduma Village in Kikuyu Constituency were left in shock after discovering a live 80mm mortar shell believed to date back to the colonial era.

According to David Muiruri, the homeowner, he stumbled upon the device while tilling his farm. He noticed its unusual shape and alerted security officers.

Area resident Anthony Njau noted that similar explosive devices have occasionally been found in the region, suggesting they may have been left behind during past military operations.

Confirming the incident, Kikuyu Sub-County Police Commander Joseph Ndege said the recovered 80mm mortar shell was highly explosive. He urged members of the public to exercise extreme caution and to promptly report any suspicious objects to the authorities.

Police have since secured the area and called in bomb disposal experts to safely detonate the device.
