A Meru law court is on Tuesday expected to decide on whether to set free a Catholic nun or hold her for 14 days pending investigations into the murder of a fellow nun.

Sister Caroline Kanjiru is held for her suspected involvement in the killing of Sister Ansilime Karimi from Nkabune.

Police officer Abdul Tulla told the court that Sister Caroline, who appeared in court on a miscellaneous mention, is a flight risk.

The court heard that the nun earlier said the deceased, whom she took to Nkubu Hospital, had died on her way there, yet investigations show she had bruised hands and legs that could mean otherwise.

Tulla asked the court to keep her in custody for 14 days to investigate the incident further.

Sister Caroline’s lawyer, however, argued that she should be released on a bond as she cannot run away and will appear before the court when needed.
