Busia Law Court Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti on Wednesday supervised the destruction of heroin and bhang worth over 21 million at the Alupe Sub-County Hospital Incinerator in adherence to a court order.
According to the Office of the Director of Public
Prosecution (ODPP), the exercise involved the burning of 3,936 grams of heroin valued
at approximately Ksh.11.8 million and 337.2
kilograms of bhang estimated to be worth Ksh.10.1 million.
The heroin was reportedly seized from convict Mumbi Mwaura, who had earlier been
fined Ksh.50 million or, in default, sentenced to 50 years imprisonment by the
same court on March 18, 2025.
The destruction was witnessed by a multi-agency team comprising officers from the Judiciary, the
National Police Service (NPS), the National Environment Management Authority
(NEMA), Public Health, the Kenya Prisons Service, the Kenya Forest Service
(KFS), the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), and both
County and Sub-County security teams.
