Record Kenyan Premier League (KPL)
champions Gor Mahia Football Club have secured a lucrative partnership deal
with Kansai Plascon Kenya, worth Ksh5 million per season, with an option for
annual renewal.
The partnership was unveiled
on Friday at an event attended by club chairman Senior Council Ambrose Rachier,
patron Eliud Owalo, players and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials.
Speaking during the
announcement, Owalo described the agreement as mutually beneficial, noting that
it offers the sponsor strong brand visibility while strengthening the club
financially.
“This partnership between Gor
Mahia and Plascon is mutually beneficial, giving our partner strong brand
visibility while providing the club with much-needed financial support,” said
Owalo.
According to the club, the
funds will be used to enhance player welfare, facilitate timely travel to away
fixtures, and support training-ground activities during the season.
Rachier emphasized the
importance of proper procedure and accountability in securing sponsorships,
noting that both parties are bound by the terms of the agreement.
He stressed that sponsors
must receive value for their investment.
“Yes, it is a milestone, a
big one… we must give positive visibility to our sponsors otherwise there will
be no need for them to assist us, to pay us money, spend their money for a
worthless cause,” said Rachier.
The club has also stepped up
engagement with its membership and branch network, urging members to honor
their contributions as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Gor Mahia’s
financial base and governance structures.
Founded in 1968, Gor Mahia
are the most successful club in Kenya and one of the most decorated teams in
Eastern and Central Africa, with 21 league titles to their name.
Reflecting on last season,
Rachier noted that finishing second should not overshadow the club’s
achievements, adding that the team remains focused on reclaiming the league
crown in the upcoming campaign.
He also stressed that league
position alone should not be used to judge a coach’s performance, underscoring
the need for stability and support for the technical bench.
The club’s leadership
believes the Plascon partnership, alongside stronger member involvement, will
provide a solid foundation for sustained success both on and off the pitch.
