Kenyan Premier League debutants Nairobi United have released five players as the club continues to reshape its squad midway through its maiden top-flight campaign.
The players released are Captain Daniel Bichiok, Chris Opondo, Adams Nyambane, Isaac Omweri, and Lonny Amudava.
The decision signals a significant transition phase for Nairobi United, who are balancing the demands of domestic football with their historic debut in the CAF Confederation Cup.
While some of the exits were expected due to limited playing time, others mark the end of influential chapters in the club’s rapid rise through the divisions.
One of the most notable exits is that of South Sudan international defender Daniel Bichiok Dang. Born in Kakuma Refugee Camp, Bichiok’s journey is among the most inspiring in Kenyan football.
He joined Nairobi United when they were still in the lower tiers and played a central role in their ascent to the top flight.
The teenage defender captained the side to their first-ever FKF Cup triumph in 2025, a victory that earned the club a spot in continental football.
He was also named Nairobi United’s Defender of the Season for the 2024/25 campaign and earned his first senior call-up to the South Sudan national team.
His departure brings to an end a highly successful era with the club.
Chris Opondo, a 23-year-old Kenyan defender, joined the club during the August 2025 transfer window from FC Talanta.
He featured in both Kenya Premier League and CAF Confederation Cup matches but now departs after a short spell at the club as Nairobi United look to refine their defensive options.
Lonny Amudava also exits after struggling for regular minutes this season, while forward Adams Nyambane leaves as part of the squad trimming process ahead of the second half of the campaign.
Another eye-catching name among the departing players is Isaac Omweri. The highly-rated attacking midfielder was Nairobi United’s Most Valuable Player in the 2024/25 season, registering 17 assists and seven goals as the club won the FKF National Super League and FKF Cup.
The 18-year-old has since reportedly attracted interest from several top-flight clubs, including Mathare United, Sofapaka, and Shabana, following trials with Swedish side IF Brommapojkarna last year.
As Nairobi United navigate their first Premier League season, these changes underline their intent to recalibrate the squad while remaining competitive on both domestic and continental fronts.
