Francis Kahata wasted no time making his mark at KCB,
scoring the only goal in a tightly contested 1-0 win over Posta Rangers in a
midweek Kenya Premier League (KPL) clash at Kasarani Annex.
The midfielder, who joined the bankers during the mid-season
transfer window from Kenya Police FC, netted in the 23rd minute with a composed
finish that ultimately decided the game.
The strike not only marked Kahata’s arrival at the club, but
also delivered a vital three points for KCB who have been winless in their last
three league matches. KCB lost 3-1 to Shabana in December, before drawing 0-0
with Police FC on January 9, and losing 2-0 to Nairobi United on Thursday,
January 15.
Posta Rangers, level on points with KCB before kickoff, had
a chance to respond when they earned a penalty five minutes from half-time. But
Trevor Teddy saw his effort miss the target, leaving the visitors trailing at
the break.
In the second half, Posta pressed forward in search of an equalizer
by committing more players forward, but KCB’s disciplined defense soaked up the
pressure, remaining compact and organized to protect their slender lead.
The result lifts KCB to sixth in the league standings with 25 points from 17 matches, while Posta Rangers stay 11th, left to rue a missed penalty and a tightly guarded KCB defense.
