Bandari Queens began their 2026/2027 Women’s National Super League (WNSL) campaign in emphatic fashion, thrashing Diani Queens 8-1 at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa on Saturday afternoon.

Agnes Olesi, Mercy Masika and Narianah Nakato each scored twice, while Happy Mutta and Noel Shilachilo added a goal apiece for Bandari Queens. Daisy Gichaine scored Diani Queens’ lone goal.

Bandari Queens made a blistering start, with Masika opening the scoring in the third minute.

Diani Queens responded in the 10th minute when Gichaine headed home from Riziki Malimau’s corner to level the contest.

The hosts quickly restored their lead, with Shilachilo rising highest to connect with Olesi’s corner and head past Diani goalkeeper Muja Lila.

Bandari extended their advantage in the 37th minute when Mutta capitalised on a defensive lapse by Diani, tapping home from close range to make it 3-1 at halftime.

The hosts returned from the break with renewed intensity and added a fourth goal in the 52nd minute. Substitute Nakato was played through one-on-one by captain Florida Sidhani before calmly finishing.

Olesi then took centre stage, scoring twice in quick succession. She struck in the 58th minute before unleashing a powerful effort in the 65th minute following a precise pass from Masika to put Bandari 6-1 ahead.

Masika completed her brace in the 76th minute, dancing past the goalkeeper before tapping the ball into an empty net following a defence-splitting pass from Salama Gaone.

Nakato completed the rout in the final minute of stoppage time, converting Masika’s pass to seal an 8-1 victory for the hosts.

Speaking after the final whistle, Bandari Queens head coach Jonathan Maraga Washe welcomed the emphatic victory, saying the team had prepared thoroughly for the new season.

“We were well prepared for this match. Our CEO Tony Kibwana and Patron Captain William Ruto ensured we had enough time for a proper pre-season. What happened today is a result of good preparation,” said Washe.
