The finalists were chosen from 34 contestants representing countries including Kenya, Chad, Congo, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Nigeria. The selection process focused on contestants’ presence, personality, and potential for the runway.
The announcement took place during a press briefing attended by prominent figures in the fashion industry, such as Cornell McBride Sr., President of Design Essentials; Sharon Thompson, International Marketing Manager for McBride Research Laboratories; Matteo Puglisi, CEO of Select Model Management; and Magdalene Takangiro, a top-five finalist from the 2024 competition.
McBride highlighted Design Essentials’ role in supporting Africa’s creative sector and economic empowerment through training and resources aimed at young talent.
Puglisi noted the increased competition this year, emphasizing contestants' attitude, character, and look as key factors in selecting the finalists.
The event also paid tribute to Joan Okorodudu, Founder of Africa’s Next Super Model and CEO of Isis Models, who was absent due to personal bereavement. A special tribute is planned during the finale.
The grand finale is expected to attract government officials, celebrities, international scouts from fashion capitals including Paris, Italy, and New York, as well as local and regional industry figures. The event will feature live musical performances and a red carpet showcase.
The winner will receive $5,000, the title of Africa’s Next Super Model, and a platform to launch an international modelling career.
