The affordable housing project in the country has become a beacon of hope for thousands of youths and women, providing them with employment opportunities, new skills, and a chance to rebuild their lives.

Women and youth are leading the charge, comprising almost 75% of the workforce across various construction sites nationwide. From skilled labour to supply chain management, these individuals are driving progress and transforming their communities.

In Lumumba, Kisumu County, the project has brought about a significant transformation, with youths and women engaged in various construction activities, such as plastering, painting, and mixing cement. The project has not only provided them with jobs but also equipped them with new skills, enabling them to become self-reliant.

"I used to struggle to make ends meet, but since this project started, I have been busy and earning a living," said Alphonce Odhiambo, a worker at the site. "I have gained skills and confidence, and I am now able to support myself and my family."

The project has also benefited women, who have found employment and entrepreneurial opportunities. Hawa Omar Ahmed, a food vendor at the site, said, "This project has helped me a lot. I can now feed my children and pay rent. It has improved my life significantly."

According to the government, over 50,000 jobs have been created nationwide through this initiative. The project has also led to a reduction in crime rates, as youths are now engaged in meaningful activities.

"We have seen a decrease in crime rates in the area since the project started," said Mildred Injairu, a worker at the site. "The youths are now busy and focused on their work, and this has had a positive impact on the community."

The 220 housing units, each in Soy, Emgwen and Vihiga constituencies, are ready for occupancy with studio, one-bedroom and three-bedroom units.

The affordable housing project is a testament to the power of development initiatives to transform lives and communities. As the project continues to grow and expand, it is likely to have an even greater impact on the lives of thousands of Kenyans.
