US President Donald Trump has revoked over 300,000 Visas in
his second term as the federal government steps up its immigration crackdown.
In a list titled “worst of the worst” that was uploaded on the
department of Homeland security website, 52 Kenyans are among 300,000 people
whose US Visas had been revoked, in what the US has said is a move to improve
domestic security.
Through his X account, State department spokesperson Tommy
Pigott said that the US administration has zero tolerance for foreigners who
break the law, commit fraud or undermine national security.
In 2024, President Trump hinged his campaign on curbing
illegal migration with his administration enforcing tightened social media
screening of immigrants and Visa applicants.
“With over 300,000 revocations, the Trump administration has
revoked more visas at a faster pace than any administration in history. We are
taking, and will continue to take, action to keep our borders, and our nation,
secure,” said Pigott.
“Every visa decision is a national security decision, and that
standard doesn’t stop once a visa is issued. If someone breaks the law or
threatens our national security, that’s grounds for visa revocation.”
He added: “We are looking at social media because we live much
of our lives on social media. We are looking at those links there to ensure
that someone is fully vetted.”
