Seventeen countries, including South Korea, Iran, Egypt, Rwanda, Uganda, Ivory Coast, and Eswatini, have confirmed participation in the World U21 Taekwondo Championship, which Kenya will host for the first time from December 3rd to 8th, 2025.

According to Martin Marava, Technical Manager of the Taekwondo Federation of Kenya, the international visitors are expected to arrive from the end of this month.

Coach Joseph Mwanda revealed that Kenya’s 16-player team has intensified its residential training at the Kenya Academy of Sports, aiming to impress home fans in an event expected to attract global attention.

“Before coming here, we were conducting non-residential training at Blue Phoenix. Now, with the residential camp, we thank the government because we have enough time to polish the team,” said Mwanda.

Under the guidance of experienced coaches like Stacy Gatiiyu, the team is targeting a strong medal haul, having been in camp since last week.

“We started a little late, but the team is catching up well. We are sharpening all techniques, hoping to become the best team in the world,” said Gatiiyu.

Coach Kalele Kahindi added, “The players are progressing rapidly in their techniques, and we believe they will achieve great results for the nation.”

The championship will run under the theme “Taekwondo Values for Climate Action”, highlighting the sport’s role in promoting global awareness alongside competition.
